We’re not gonna take it – Interpretation

The original music video is what I remember.

The newer one is meant for child cancer patients. My interpretation is child abuse/trauma. This older Dee is me today. The young Dee from the original video was me back then.

What I see/think/hear when Dee Snider sings We’re not gonna take it:

To my fellow, high-ACE scoring survivors of childhood trauma, I dedicate the first verse:
We’ve got the right to choose it
There ain’t no way we’ll lost it
This is our life, this is our song
I was talking with a colleague about a child who was sexually assaulted at age 14. My colleague stated simply, “That child will never be right.”
And I was crushed … because that’s what all the nice people think. We’ll never be “right.” But Dee says, no we’ll fight. And the nice people don’t know us. They cannot comment. They do not belong (a fact for which they should be grateful).
We’ll fight the powers that be just
Don’t pick our destiny ’cause
You don’t know us, you don’t belong
Oh we’re not gonna take it
No, we ain’t gonna take it
Oh we’re not gonna take it anymore
To all the predators out there who gaslight and chastise their victims, you have a lot of gall. We don’t need an explanation, nor apology. We don’t care if you’ve changed. We don’t want nothin’ from you.
Oh you’re so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don’t want nothin’, not a thing from you
To all the victim blamers and shamers, those who do not believe or think it’s no big deal, good news, Dee has a verse for you too:
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that’s your best, your best won’t do
Oh Oh
We’re right (yeah)
We’re free (yeah)
We’ll fight (yeah)
You’ll see (yeah)
Oh we’re not gonna take it
No, we ain’t gonna take it
Oh we’re not gonna take it anymore
Oh we’re not gonna take it

The original video is what I remember best. The ballad comes closest to what I hear and see.
